Marta Ren & The Groovelvets - Summers Gone (Didn’t Swim)
> Nice summer vibe from @recordkicks with lots of Swing (although sadly no Swim). Marta & her Groovelvets are a Portughese Retro Soul band from Oporto but there’s no hint of Fado in these tunes. Fitting in theme to our Dutch Summers, here’s hoping that our summer will be ‘swimming’ instead of ‘dipping one!
The song is available for preorder on a neat 7” together with the audibly ‘Marva Whitney inspired’ track ‘2 Kinds of Men’ (listen here) via teh RecordKicks bandcamp page. Also available digitally on iTunes. The band is currently working on a full LP slated for release around the end of the year. I’m sure I will be paying attention to them!
[MPFree] @HarMarSuperstar - Lady You Shot Me
> This is an excellent excursion in blue-eyed soul. In this lead single for his most recent album ‘Bye Bye 17’ there’s a good amount of dance moves, including some JB like steps. Har Mar Superstar’s entire album is inspired by artists like Otis Redding and Sam Cooke and was recorded at co-producer Jim Eno‘s (Spoon) Austin studio with a full live band. Lady, you shot me is available to download for free via Stereogum.com
Frameworks - Old Friend (feat. JP Cooper)
Very impressive, cinematic track with beautiful, emotional vocals. Frameworks build up the feeling of this track expertly, pulling you in to the state of mind of the subject of the video, making musical twists and turns to pull you in. JP Cooper’s voice conveys the emotion and compels you to listen to the story that unfolds in the song and accompanying video.
Listen to the full 4-track ‘Old Friend EP’ on Soundcloud.
AND don’t forget to grab the FREE previous EP ‘Vanish’ off the Frameworks Bandcamp page, where you can also preorder the new EP.

‘Day Tripper’ by Link Quartet
Awesomely funky laid back Hammond version of the Beatles’ Day Tripper. Just close your eyes, lean back & listen to that Hammond as it grinds its way through the track!
How cool! Laser Cut Wooden Record. Does it sound good? No way. Destroys your needle, probably. But it looks really cool!
Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings are back! The tune is called “Retreat” and is an impressive slab of raw soul. Looking forward to the upcoming LP!
From the upcoming album, Give the People What They Want, out this coming August (2013).
